Legal
Privacy
policy.
Last updated 30 July 2026. We collect the minimum needed to ship a device and answer an email — nothing more.
This policy is provided as general information about our practices. It is not legal advice. Please have it reviewed by an Australian legal practitioner before you begin trading.
1. Who we are
Loch street trading company (ABN [ABN to be confirmed]) trading as “Howl” (we, us, our) sells the Howl personal safety alarm to customers in Australia and New Zealand.
Privacy contact: Howl@Howl-Alert.com
We are bound by the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). For customers in New Zealand we also comply with the Information Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
2. What personal information we collect
- Order information — name, delivery address, billing address, email address and phone number.
- Payment information — handled by our payment provider. We receive confirmation of payment and the last four digits of the card only. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Support information — the content of emails and enquiry forms, including any order number, photo or description of a fault you send us.
- Marketing information — your email address if you subscribe to launch or product updates.
- Technical information — IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited and referring site, collected through cookies and analytics.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act, and we ask that you do not send it to us.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information directly from you when you place an order, subscribe to updates, or contact us. We also collect it automatically through our website and its analytics tools, and we receive order and delivery information from our e-commerce, payment and shipping providers.
Where it is reasonable and practicable, we collect information directly from you rather than from a third party.
4. Why we collect it and how we use it
We collect personal information only where it is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities (APP 3), and we use and disclose it only for the purpose it was collected or a directly related purpose you would reasonably expect (APP 6). Specifically:
- To process, fulfil and deliver your order.
- To provide customer support and handle warranty claims.
- To process returns, exchanges and refunds.
- To send order and delivery notifications.
- To send product and safety updates, where you have opted in.
- To improve our website, product range and service, using aggregated analytics.
- To meet our legal, tax and product safety record-keeping obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not disclose it for another organisation's direct marketing.
5. Direct marketing and opting out
Marketing emails are only sent where you have opted in, or where you are an existing customer and would reasonably expect to hear from us about a similar product (APP 7). Every marketing email contains a functional unsubscribe link and our sender details, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth) and the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007 (NZ). Unsubscribe requests are actioned within five business days.
You can also opt out at any time by emailing Howl@Howl-Alert.com. Opting out of marketing does not stop transactional emails about an order you have placed.
6. Who we disclose it to
We disclose personal information only to the service providers we need in order to run the store. Each is bound by contract to use the information only for the service they provide to us:
- E-commerce and checkout — our online store platform, which hosts the cart, checkout and order records.
- Payment processing — our payment provider, which handles card data under PCI DSS.
- Shipping and fulfilment — Australia Post, NZ Post and courier partners, who receive your name, address and phone number.
- Email and support — our email delivery and inbox providers.
- Website hosting and analytics — our hosting provider and analytics tools.
- Professional advisers and authorities — where required or authorised by law, including product safety regulators.
7. Overseas disclosure
Some of our providers store or process data outside Australia and New Zealand. This is likely to include the United States, the European Union, Canada, Singapore and Ireland, depending on the provider and its data centre locations.
Before disclosing personal information overseas we take reasonable steps under APP 8 to ensure the recipient handles it in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles, including through contractual data protection terms. For New Zealand customers, we take equivalent steps under Information Privacy Principle 12.
8. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps under APP 11 to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. This includes encrypted connections, access controls on our systems, and limiting staff access to what is needed.
We keep order and tax records for at least seven years, as required by Australian tax and business record laws. Support correspondence is kept for up to three years. Marketing subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. When information is no longer needed and we are not required to keep it, we destroy or de-identify it.
No system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted to us over the internet.
9. Accessing and correcting your information
Under APP 12 and APP 13 you may request access to the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading. New Zealand customers have the same rights under Information Privacy Principles 6 and 7.
Email Howl@Howl-Alert.com with your request. We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity first. Access is free, though we may charge a reasonable cost for large or complex requests. If we refuse access or a correction we will tell you why in writing and how to complain.
You may also ask us to delete your personal information. We will do so unless we are required by law to keep it — for example, tax and order records.
10. Cookies and analytics
We use essential cookies to keep the site and cart working, and analytics cookies to understand how the site is used in aggregate. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; essential functions such as checkout may not work correctly if you do.
We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles about identified individuals without your consent.
11. Children
Our website and store are not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, email Howl@Howl-Alert.com and we will delete it.
12. Data breaches
We comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). If a data breach is likely to result in serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as soon as practicable. For New Zealand customers we notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner where a notifiable privacy breach occurs under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
13. Complaints
If you believe we have breached your privacy, email Howl@Howl-Alert.com with the details. We will acknowledge your complaint within five business days and aim to resolve it within 30 days.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can escalate:
- Australia — Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC), oaic.gov.au, 1300 363 992.
- New Zealand — Office of the Privacy Commissioner, privacy.org.nz, 0800 803 909.
14. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always published on this page with the date it was last updated. If we make a significant change, we will notify subscribers by email.
